Gas flowing Passage 100%
A 3/4 in domestic meter control valve (BES 10526) screwed onto a solid steel service pipe, with a corrugated stainless steel meter connector on its outlet. Gas comes up the service, whose R 3/4 taper thread (14 threads per inch, 1 in 16 on the diameter, drawn at twice the taper so it shows) wedges into the valve's 3/4 in BSP female inlet, 7 turns deep when tight. It leaves by the BS 746 male outlet, where the connector's swivel nut clamps its tail onto a rubber washer (PN 2415). The connector is 404 mm overall with a 20 mm bore, and its other end is a 3/4 in BSP taper male tail that screws into the regulator. To take the valve off, the swivel nut is undone anticlockwise (2¾ turns) and the connector set aside first, then the valve turns anticlockwise off the service. The red lever turns the ball a quarter turn (the small securing pin, held in a lug on the brass body, stays put as the lever turns; screwed in, it locks the lever from being turned on): gas starts to pass as soon as the lever leaves 90°, where the ball's bore first overlaps the seat openings, and the passage grows to full bore when the lever lies along the pipe at 0°. The yellow tape on the connector shows which way is on, and the dots move at a speed in proportion to the open passage. Brass body to BS EN 12165 CW617N; rated 0.5 bar, -20 to 60 °C, natural gas and LPG, with high-temperature resistance to BS EN 1775 Annex A. The ball, bore, seat and fitting sizes are typical, not taken from a maker's drawing.
